Tiger girls stem Spaulding hockey

BARRE — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team eased past host Spaulding on Saturday, outshooting the Crimson Tide, 28-9, in a 5-1 victory.
The Tigers won their sixth straight and improved to 9-2-1 heading into a 7 p.m. Monday night home game vs. Lake Placid, N.Y., and a Saturday game at South Burlington. Spaulding (5-4) suffered its fourth straight loss after a 5-0 start.
Tully Hescock and Monroe Cromis led the Tiger attack a goal and an assist apiece. Lauren Bartlett, Julia Carone and Helen Anderson also found the net for the Tigers, and goalie Katie Billings made eight saves.
Olivia Couture scored for Spaulding, and goalie Maddy Pletzer stopped 23 shots.
