Black cat appreciation days are upon us

MIDDLEBURY — Homeward Bound, Addison County’s Humane Society, is holding “Black Cat Appreciation Days” from Nov. 24-Dec. 5 at its Middlebury shelter, 236 Boardman St.
Recognizing an overlooked shelter animal, Homeward Bound officials are hoping that a very special segment of the shelter population will find homes in time for the holidays. Through Dec. 5, the shelter is offering to waive the adoption fees on all black and black/white cats and kittens.
Executive director Jessica Danyow says, “We wanted to do something to recognize an often overlooked animal at the shelter — the black cat — so we created Black Cat Appreciation Days. We are hopeful that this special deal will boost the adoptions of our black and black/white cats and kittens and get them into their forever homes in time for the upcoming holidays.”
The shelter currently has 26 cats and kittens eligible through this promotion. The shelter is open from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday with adoption counselors ready to assist visitors. Monetary donations will be accepted in lieu of the traditional adoption fee during Black Cat Appreciation Days.
