MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s soccer team picked up two recent wins to improve to 5-3-4, 3-2-3 in NESCAC play. The Panthers were set to play at St. Lawrence on Wednesday and will return to action on Saturday at Tufts.
On this past Saturday, the Panthers blanked league foe Trinity, 3-0. The Bantams dropped to 8-4, 4-3 in NESCAC play.
Adrianna Gildner took Amy Martin’s serve from the right side at 28:31 to score the first Panther goal; it was her team-high eighth goal. The Panthers increased their lead to 2-0 just after halftime, when Martin sent a bouncing shot from right to left that tucked inside the far post.
Middlebury completed the scoring in the 78th minute, when Alissa Huntington headed home a Hannah Robinson free kick.
Panther goalie Kate Reinmuth finished with four saves to earn the win and her second shutout of the campaign and seventh of her career, while Monica DiFiori made seven stops for the Bantams. The Panthers concluded the match with a 20-7 advantage in shots.
On Thursday, Gildner scored both Middlebury goals as the Panthers blanked host Castleton, 2-0.
Gildner got the Panthers on the scoreboard at the 7:14 mark by converting a Robinson through ball. Gildner scored again early in the second half, knocking home her own rebound after Spartan goalie Jessica Binkowski had already stopped a pair of shots.
Reinmuth stopped two shots, while Binkowski made five saves for the Spartans. Middlebury held a 22-6 advantage in shots.
