ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school boys’ soccer games late last week, Middlebury overcame host Vergennes, while Mount Abraham lost at home and Otter Valley dropped a road tilt.
The games concluded the regular season. The Vermont Principals’ Association was set to release playoff pairings on Monday morning.
MUHS VS. VUHS
On Friday, the Tigers topped host Vergennes, 2-0, to finish at 6-7-1 after an 0-5-1 start. MUHS got a first-half goal from Duncan McCabe and a late second-half strike from VUHS transfer Camden Simpson to ice the win. Tiger goalie Santiago Fernandez stopped four shots, with Antonio Ruggiero made nine saves for the 2-12 Commodores.
The Tigers will apparently earn the No. 12 seed in Division I and visit No. 5 Mount Anthony. The Commodores look like the No. 15 seed and will probably visit No. 2 Lake Region (14-0).
EAGLES FALL
Also on Friday, D-I Rice eased past the Eagles, 4-1, to improve to 12-2. The Eagles dropped to 9-3-2 despite a goal from Jack Willis set up byDylan Weaver and a combined three saves from goalies Caleb Bonvouloir andNick Szczeciniski. Kyle Decoster made two saves for Rice.
Mount Abe appears to have earned the No. 4 seed in D-II and a visit from No. 13 Lamoille (.3-9-2)
OTTERS SUNK
On Thursday, host Fair Haven got a pair of Garrett Gonzales goals in defeating Otter Valley, 3-0. Austin Brannock also scored and goalie Sam Eaton stopped four shots as the Slaters earned a postseason D-II home game with a 9-4-1 record.
OV (3-8-3), which received seven saves from Colin Nicklaw, also earned a berth in the D-II playoffs, probably as either the No. 12 seed. Their probable first-round foe is No. 5 Harwood (7-1-3).
