Mt. Abe teens promote seat belts

BRISTOL — Members of the Mount Abraham Union High School Vermont Teen Leadership Safety Program reminded drivers and passengers arriving at school on Sept. 30 to buckle up for safety.
In addition to observing and counting the rate of seatbelt use, the students gave out “tickets” to anyone who was not buckled up and rewarded those wearing safety belts with a treat and a “thank you.”
Of the 255 people observed, 96 percent were wearing their safety belts. This represents 99 percent of females and 92 percent of males observed to be buckled up.
Students in the VTLSP volunteer their time to promote health and safety in their school and community. These students urge everyone to buckle up every time because the simple act of wearing a seat belt cuts in half the chances of serious injury or death in a car crash, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
