Men’s golf wins key fall tournament

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — For the fifth time in nine years, the Middlebury College men’s golf team won the 2015 NESCAC men’s golf championship qualifier, this time on this past Sunday on Williams College’s home course.
The victory means Coach Bill Beaney’s seven-time NESCAC champions will host the league’s championship tournament on April 30 and May 1, 2016, at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course on campus. The winner of the event advances to the 2016 NCAA Division III championship tournament.
The Panthers, who after shooting 300 on day one held a 12-stroke lead after 18 holes, shot a 305 on day two to finish with a 605 for the tournament, good for a 12-stroke victory. Trinity shot the best score on day two, 303, to finish second at 617. Amherst and Hamilton each shot a 628 to round out the four qualifying teams.
Middlebury freshman Scott Guidotti captured medalist honors, following up a 74 on day one with a tournament-best 72 on Sunday. Freshman Reid Buzby finished second overall with a 76 on day two for a two-day total of 151.
The Panthers’ third finisher was also a freshman, as Philippe Morin carded 153, good for a sixth-place tie. Rodrigo Andrade finished at 157 to tie for 11th, and Bennett Doherty tied for 17th place with a 159.
