LaDuc, Bishop race to victories at Devil’s Bowl

WEST HAVEN — Orwell’s Tim LaDuc and Bridport’s Brian Bishop won dirt-track races on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, while Bridgewater, N.H., racer Danny Douville picked up a $3,800 paycheck by winning the Green Mountain Sprint Car Nationals event.
Douville, the NAPA Sprint Cars of New England (SCoNE) series champion, drew the pole position for the 25-lap feature race and never gave up the lead in spite of two quick caution periods on laps 8 and 11.
LaDuc won the 35-lap Sportsman Modified division, which was raced in tribute to New York drive Leon Gonyo, who died after winning at Devil’s Bowl one week earlier. Making just his second appearance of the season, LaDuc won both his qualifying heat and the main event, matching the results from his first showing in July.
Anthony Alger of New York led the first 15 laps from the pole position, but ran in second place until a hard-charging Vince Quenneville Jr. of Brandon drove by him on the outside lane just before the white flag flew and took second, with Alger third.
Meanwhile, Bishop grabbed his career-first win in the 15-lap Portland Glass Mini Stock feature. Bishop came out on top of a four-wide move for the lead, passing all of the other cars still running on the track at once. Chris Cardarelli finished a career-best second, with Ferrisburgh’s Justin Bishop third.
Bill Duprey of Hydeville coasted to a win in the 20-lap Renegade race.
The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway will host its season finale on Sunday at 4 p.m.
