5 and 10K races are a Vergennes Day tradition
VERGENNES — The annual Little City Races in Vergennes will take place on Saturday, Aug. 29, during the 34th annual Vergennes Day celebration. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at the Stevens House, adjacent to the Vergennes city green. Races start at 9 a.m.
A 5K (3.1-mile) run and walk takes participants through the city streets and finishes at the green. A 10K (6.2-mile) run — with a tough hill climb at the 3-mile mark — will challenge more serious runners. Organizers assure 10K runners that the view on the return to Vergennes is “beyond spectacular” and well worth the hill climb. To register online (through Wednesday) go to www.runvermont.org/littlecity. To see maps of both courses read this story online at addisonindependent.com.
There will be awards and raffle prizes at the conclusion of the race for all three events. Due to the large expected turnout this year, online registration is recommended. The race day registration fee is adults $25 (no shirt)/youths age 18 and younger $10; adults $35 (with technical shirt)/ youths $20. Get a $5 discount if you register online by Wednesday. Race coordinator Scott Gains warns that shirts will be in short supply on race day.
This year race organizers will donate some race proceeds to the Bixby Memorial Free Library in Vergennes.
