VUHS alum makes his mark on CSC diamond

CASTLETON — After a pair of stellar pitching performances last week, Castleton State College sophomore Devin Hayes of Vergennes was honored as the Corvias ECAC Division III New England Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference today. He was given the same distinction by the North Atlantic Conference.
Hayes started twice last week, allowing just two runs (zero earned) in 13.0 innings pitched. He started off the week by tossing six innings with two unearned runs allowed and a career-high nine strikeouts in a 3-2 loss at New England College. He followed that up with a stellar performance on Sunday, as he threw a complete game shutout with five strikeouts to lead Castleton to a 3-0 victory at first-place Husson.
As of Monday, Hayes’ record in 2015 is 2-0 with a 3.90 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 27.2 innings pitched.
The Spartans stand at 12-8 overall and 5-4 in the North Atlantic Conference.
