Vergennes Police Log: Traffic stop draws arrest and a citation

VERGENNES — After a recent West Main Street traffic stop, Vergennes police ended up arresting one New York resident and citing another on drug charges.
City police said that on Saturday they stopped a car on West Main Street for allegedly traveling 44 mph in a 30 mph zone, and smelled the odor of marijuana when they approached the vehicle. The driver and passenger declined a request to search the car, but police obtained a warrant and said they found 15.5 grams of Ecstasy, 22.5 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Vergennes police then arrested the driver, Brandon McGinn, 18, of Delmar, N.Y.; charged him with possession of Ecstasy; and lodged him in the Chittenden County Correctional Center for lack of $5,000 bail.
