Opinion: Jury is still out on natural gas

Addison County residents proclaiming the virtues of natural gas should be aware that recent research has shown that “abundant supplies of natural gas will have little impact on greenhouse-gas emissions and climate change, without putting new policies in place to support other fuels that produce no CO2 when they burn” (Commentary by Steven Davis and Christine Shearer, Nature magazine, Oct. 23, 2014; online at www.nature.com).
Supporters of the Addison County natural gas project might wish to re-examine the consequences of their proposed actions in light of these new results.
