MILTON — Six members of the Sodbusters Horseshoe Club claimed state titles at the Vermont State Horseshoe Pitching Tournament held in Milton this past Saturday and Sunday.
Some familiar names were at the top of the leader board, including Men’s Class A champ Brian Simmons and Women’s Class A champ Debra Brown, who were both undefeated.
Also on the top of the podium were, in the Junior Class: Co-ed champ Dakota Santor, Girls’ champ Destinnie Wilke, and Boys’ champ Brandyn Lebarron.
The Sodbusters’ final state champ was Neil Kennedy, who went 5-0 in winning the Elder Class A title. There were 102 competitors in the state tourney.
The Sodbusters Horseshoe Club is hosting the HP Pro Tour “Green Mountain Challenge” competition on Aug. 22-24 at their courts in Bristol off Airport Road behind the American Legion. This is the fourth stop on a five-tournament HP Pro Tour schedule that includes matches in South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas. More information is at www.hpprotour.com
