Panther golfers win invitational
BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Middlebury College men’s golf team opened its fall season with a win at the 2014 Bowdoin Invitational Tournament, held this past weekend at the 6,601-yard, par-72 Brunswick Golf Club.
The Panthers came in with a two-day total of 601, including a 299 on Sunday to become the only team to break 300 in the two-day event. Endicott (606), Providence (606), Bates (635) and St. Anselm (645) rounded out the top five at the 12-team tournament.
Senior Charlie Garcia paced the individual efforts for the Panthers with a 146, including a 72 on Sunday to finish in third place. Senior Eric Laorr took fifth with a 73 on Sunday for a two-day total of 149, while sophomore Fitz Bowen was right behind him in sixth (77-73).
Senior Chris Atwood finished in 12th place with a 154, while senior John Louie rounded out Middlebury’s scorers in a tie for 20th at 159 (77-82).
