In tennis action, both Tiger squads fall short

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ and girls’ tennis teams both came up short in matches late last week, as did the Otter Valley girls.      
TIGER BOYS
On Thursday, host BFA-St. Albans blanked the Tigers, 7-0. The individual results were:
• At No. 1 singles, Sam Costes, B, defeated Elliott Abbott, M, 6-3, 6-3.
• At No. 2 singles, Jake Remillard, B, defeated Bo Tran, M, 7-6, 6-1.
• At No. 3 singles, Gordon Kayfus, B, defeated Bob Avery, M, 6-0, 6-1.
• At No. 4 singles, Thomas Allerton, B, defeated Marcello Hanta-Davis, M, 6-1, 6-1.
• At No. 5 singles, Nicholas Striggoni, B, defeated Jerry Staret, M 6-0, 6-2.
• At No. 1 doubles, Will Tannebeiger/Phil McKay, B, defeated Nick Holmes/Eric Podraza, M, 3-6, 7-5, 14-12.
• At No. 2 doubles, Jake Pelkey/Dan Barrow, B, defeated Max Mayone/Ben Silver, M, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0.
TIGER GIRLS
On Thursday, visiting BFA-St. Albans bested the Tiger girls, 5-2. The individual results, most of which were highly competitive, were:
• At No. 1 singles, Marvie Avery, M, beat Ciara Bannister, B, 7-6 (14-12), 6-0.
• At No. 2 singles, Madeline Ganey, M, beat Summer Averill, B, 6-2, 2-6 (10-4).
• At No. 3 singles, Sonia Howlett, M, lost to Dianne Benedicto, B, 5-7, 5-7.
• At No. 4 singles, Dorothy Punderson, M, lost to Lindsey Lowell, B, 1-6, 1-6.
• At No. 5 singles, Charlotte Keathley, M, lost to Jana Somero, B, 5-7, 4-6.
• At No. 1 doubles, Jesse Wulfman/Julia Cluss, M, lost to Gina Neidig/Lauren LaRose, B, 6-4, 4-6 (10-8). 
• At No. 2 doubles, Lindsay Wells/Sara Boe, M, lost to Michele McKay/Laurel Hebert, B, 6-2, 2-6 (10-7).
OTTER GIRLS
On Friday, visiting Brattleboro defeated OV, 7-0, including three forfeited points. In contested matches:
• At No. 1 singles, Katie Tsukamoto, B, defeated Danarose Weaver, OV, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 10-6.
• At No. 2 singles, Jennifer Hutton, B, defeated Sarah Young, OV, 6-3, 6-3.
• At No. 3 singles, Haley Marcil, B, defeated Caitlyn Curtis, OV, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.
• At No. 1 doubles, Aliza Racine/Dani Looman, B, defeated Gabrielle Welch/Jonna Keith, OV, 6-0, 6-3.
