Middlebury Police Log: Man allegedly assaults woman with box spring

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to a reported domestic dispute at a Jackson Lane residence on Feb. 16. Police said a woman alleged that her ex-boyfriend had struck her in the head with a box spring. Police and prosecutors are reviewing the case for potential criminal charges.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Received a report of some men shouting sexual innuendoes at a woman in the Mill Street parking lot on Feb. 10. Police said they were unable to locate the men.
• Returned an at-risk juvenile to the Counseling Service of Addison County offices on Feb. 10.
• Issued juvenile citations to two Middlebury Union High School students who were seen smoking marijuana on the campus on Feb. 10.
• Received a report on Feb. 10 that someone had kicked in a North Pleasant Street resident’s door.
• Responded to a noise complaint at a Jayne Court residence on Feb. 10.
• Received a report of a car with a smashed windshield parked in the Valley View area on Feb. 11. Police suspect the damage might have occurred during snow removal work at the complex.
• Assisted a Cross Street resident who was having mental health problems on Feb. 12.
• Were told of the theft of a cell phone from the AT&T store in The Centre shopping plaza on Feb. 12.
• Received a report of a “loud beer-pong party” at a Weybridge Street residence on Feb. 13. Police said the call was cancelled prior to their arrival.
• Were told on Feb. 13 that a woman wearing a bright yellow snow suit was standing in the Merchants Row area yelling at people. Police said the woman left prior to their arrival.
• Provided traffic control on Route 125 in East Middlebury during the afternoon of Feb. 14 after three vehicles had gone off the road due to snowy conditions.
• Turned an intoxicated man over to Middlebury College Public Safety on Feb. 14.
• Investigated a report of an erratic driver on Route 7 north on Feb. 15.
• Responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 7 south and East Main Street on Feb. 15. Police said one of the drivers sustained a minor injury.
• Assisted an elderly Morningside Drive resident with a broken water pipe on Feb. 15.
• Helped Vermont State Police try to find a missing woman on Feb. 15.
• Responded to a reported domestic dispute on South Street on Feb. 16. Middlebury College Public Safety reported a man driving a truck was blocking the woman’s path as she attempted to walk on South Street. Middlebury police interviewed both individuals and determined the dispute was only verbal and that the man did not want the woman walking because she was pregnant.
• Assisted a Case Street man in applying for a temporary restraining order on Feb. 16.
