Police plan patrols for New Year’s Eve

VERGENNES — The Vergennes Police Department, in cooperation with other Addison County law enforcement agencies, will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint, as well as saturation patrols, on New Year’s Eve, Chief George Merkel announced on Friday. This initiative is in support of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program’s Holiday Safety campaign.
“It is our intent to keep our highways safe during the holiday season with an increased officer presence on our roadways,” Merkel said in a press release. “We ask everyone to drink responsibly, utilize designated drivers and always wear your seatbelts. Please do not put yourselves or others at risk by driving while impaired.”
