VERGENNES  — Last Friday, July 26, Vergennes police received a warning to be on the lookout for a vehicle being driven erratically. Police stopped the car on Main Street and cited the driver, 22-year-old Tristan Bartsch of New Haven, for driving under the influence, first offense.
According the Vergennes police, Bartsch’s blood alcohol content was 0.188; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.
After processing him, they turned him over to a family member.
In other activity last week, Vergennes police:
•On July 22 responded to a report of a suspicious van in front of Kinney Drug. The caller’s suspicions about drug dealing proved to be unfounded.
•On July 22 responded to a Monkton Road business where an employee reported having a surveillance video of a female stealing three items from the store. The case is under investigation.
•On July 22 came to a dispute on Second Street where one citizen said another male had sent him threatening text messages over some personal belongings. Police said a third party came and took control of the belongings, which settled the matter.
•On July 22 checked what turned out to be a false burglar alarm on Meigs Road.
•On July 24 Chief George Merkel spoke on WVTK radio.
•On July 24 looked into a complaint about a student taking a summer school class at Vergennes Union High School. School officials handled the incident.
•On July 24 assisted the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad and Vermont State Police with a person having emotional difficulties on Button Bay Lane in Ferrisburgh.
•On July 24 responded to separate false reports of burglaries on New Haven Road and Mountain Lane.
•On July 24 performed a foot patrol around town.
•On July 25 verified a vehicle identification number for a citizen.
•On July 25 began investigating a report that someone had stolen copper wire from Velco property at 2 North Main St. The case is still open.
•On July 25 looked into a 911 hangup from Bowman Road.
•On July 26 in the early morning hours found an intoxicated person on Green Street, and took the person to a residence where someone took care of him.
•On July 26 cited Tyler Owen Flynn, 22, of Vergennes for larceny in regard to a case of the theft of copper pipe from a First Street home.
•On July 26 responded to the John Graham Shelter for a report that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian while the vehicle was making a U-turn and the vehicle then left the scene. Police report that a tire on the vehicle hit a woman in the calf, though no injury was reported. Police identified the driver and have talked to him. The case is still under investigation.
•On July 26 dealt with the first of several calls from a Main Street resident, who said she’d seen a suspicious female getting into a car. The same resident on the 28th reported an attempted burglary and separately made threatening remarks to people. Police contacted the Counseling Service of Addison County about getting the resident some help.
•On July 26 followed up on a report of a suspicious vehicle at Champlain Farms on Main Street. The driver consented to a police search of the vehicle, which turned up drug paraphernalia. No charges were filed.
•On July 27 assisted the Addison County Sheriff’s Department with a consent search of a vehicle on Route 7. Police found marijuana and the deputy handled the arrest.
•On July 27 investigated a report from a Main Street resident that keys, a debit card and $65 in cash had been stolen.
•On July 27 opened an investigation of the theft of an iPod and other items from a car on Mountain View Lane.
•On July 27 helped a driver who was locked out of his car.
•On July 27 received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Eagles Club parking lot. It turned out to be a youngster practicing driving.
•On July 27 logged a report that a GPS and Swedish currency had been stolen from vehicles parked on Monkton Road.
•On July 27 received pills from a citizen who wanted to turn them in to authorities. They turned out to be acetaminophen (a non-prescription pain killer).
•On July 27 checked out a report of two males attempting to break into cars on North Main Street. Police found the two, and searched them and their house but didn’t find any stolen property; nothing was reported missing from the cars.
•On July 27 assisted VSP with a drunken driving incident on Basin Harbor Road in Panton.
•On July 28 mediated a landlord-tenant dispute on Main Street.
•On July 28 looked into a hit-and-run complaint on Maple Street.
•On July 28 helped a driver get into a locked car on Monkton Road.
•On July 28 received a report of vandalism to the VUHS scoreboard.
•On July 28 responded to a noise complaint at the city docks. Police told the offenders to turn down the music.
