MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a report of an unresponsive man who had allegedly overdosed on heroin in a Case Street residence on June 27. Rescue officials were able to revive the man, and the matter remains under investigation, according to police.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Turned over two loose dogs to the local animal control officer on June 27. The dogs were found in the East Main Street area, according to police.
•  Checked on a person who Counseling Service of Addison County officials were concerned might harm themselves on June 27.
•  Cited Charles Pominville, 57, of Middlebury for driving under the influence, following an investigation off Court Street on June 27. Police said a caller told them that Pominville’s vehicle had earlier been seen “traveling all over the road on Seminary Street Extension.”
•  Interviewed an East Middlebury woman who was frightened by a suspicious looking man who stopped his car near the Grist Mill Bridge on June 27. The woman told police the man “was dressed in dress clothes and began moving things around in his vehicle very fast and frantically before exiting the car and walking around the passenger side toward her,” the police report of the incident states. “(He) neither did or said anything to the caller, but was acting very strange, scaring her and her dog.”
•  Were told to be on the lookout for a possible drunken driver heading into town from Brandon on June 27. Police said they were unable to locate the vehicle.
•  Assisted Porter Hospital officials in dealing with a man found sleeping in the “smoke shack” behind the main hospital building on June 28. The man told police he had had an argument with his girlfriend at the Middlebury Short Stop on Court Street, and walked away. He ultimately saw the hospital shack as a place to sleep until the morning, according to police.
•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local resident on June 28.
•  Interviewed a man whose car had been struck by another vehicle while traveling along Bakery Lane on June 29. Police said the blue-colored, two-door car, being driven by an unknown woman, drove away without stopping.
•  Responded to a speeding complaint in the Brookside Drive neighborhood on June 29. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.
•  Assisted a person who had received two bad checks on June 29.
•  Were informed that two large flower boxes and a hanging flower basket had been removed from the porch of a Weybridge Street residence on June 29.
•  Assisted a local man who had been receiving unwanted phone calls from a woman on June 29.
•  Received a request for a ride from a drunken woman who had been at a party on East Munger Street on June 29. Police said the woman’s husband gave her a ride home.
•  Responded to a report of a “disruptive woman” at Porter Hospital on June 29.
•  Responded to a report of an alleged shooting at a Cross Street apartment on June 29. Police said the false report had been submitted by a man with mental health problems, who was referred to the Counseling Service of Addison County.
•  Checked on a homeless man who had reportedly been sleeping at the former car wash off Route 7 South on June 30.
•  Helped resolve a verbal dispute between two men on Seymour Street on June 30.
•  Responded to a report of a man taking a bundle of newspapers from the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street on July 1.
