Input sought for Vergennes downtown improvements: event set for May 22

VERGENNES — Residents of Vergennes are invited to attend the Vergennes Downtown/Recreation Planning Forum on Wednesday, May 22, from 7-9 p.m. at the Vergennes Opera House. The city of Vergennes, in collaboration with the Vergennes Partnership and the Vergennes Opera House, has planned this meeting as an opportunity for the public to discuss recreation and downtown projects identified in the city plan that will increase the standard of living and community well-being of Vergennes residents.
Items that will be discussed include looking at ways to implement suggested downtown pedestrian improvement; designing a safe, fun place for young children to play; creating a bicycle-friendly community; brainstorming improvements for the Basin Park area; and exploring options for the rail trail.
The evening will start out with a community mixer with refreshments generously donated by 3 Squares Café. Afterward, community members will be invited to join a small group discussion facilitated by local community leaders. The evening will conclude with a brief presentation by the community leaders sharing the ideas discussed in the small-group session.
The goal of this event is to foster community support, determine priorities and financial feasibility, and recruit community volunteers with an interest in working on the development of these projects.
