Three arraigned after Hancock meth bust

HANCOCK — Vermont State Police arrested three Hancock residents on charges of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine  on Tuesday, Nov. 20, following an investigation at their respective homes off Route 125.
Arrested were Michael Wood, 44; Steven Arnold, 20; and Meegan Smith, 32. They were taken into custody following an ongoing investigation by the Vermont Drug Task Force into the alleged manufacturing and dispensing of methamphetamine at the home of Arnold and Wood. The Drug Task Force made multiple controlled buys of powder meth from the Wood/Arnold residence, according to VSP.  Their findings indicated that meth was being manufactured at the residence and the hazardous material that it produces was being dumped and burned on the property, according to authorities.
The Drug Task Force and the VSP Clandestine Lab Team ultimately executed a search warrant at Wood’s residence and arrested Wood and Arnold without incident, according to authorities. The investigation was slated to continue on Wednesday, Nov. 21, with the Clandestine Lab Team and the Vermont State Hazardous Material Team responding processing the site.
Police executed a second search warrant on Tuesday at another residence on Rt. 125 in Hancock, where Meegan Smith was arrested on an outstanding warrant from New York State for felony possession of precursors for methamphetamine. Smith also has two arrest warrants from Vermont — a Mittimus warrant and a violation of probation.
Smith was lodged without bail. Wood and Arnold were both lodged on $25,000 bail each. All three were scheduled to be arraigned in Addison County Superior Court, criminal division, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21. The Addison Independent will update this story following the arraignment.
