SUDBURY — A fund has been established at a local bank to help the family of a local man stricken with Eastern equine encephalitis who was hospitalized and remains in critical condition.
The Scott Sgorbati Family Aid Fund was established Sept. 7 at the National Bank of Middlebury to help the family of Sgorbati, one of two local men to contract EEE last month as the first human cases in the state. The other man, 87-year-old Richard Breen of Brandon, died of the disease on Sept. 4.
Catherine Wall, the branch manager of the National Bank of Middlebury in Brandon, said that word of mouth has already led to over $900 in donations as of last Tuesday morning.
“Anyone who wishes to make a donation can visit any National Bank of Middlebury branch and make a deposit to the Scott Sgorbati Family Aid Fund,” she said.
The bank has three branches in Middlebury — 30 Main St., 240 Court St. and 15 Seymour St. (drive-up only) — plus four other branches:

•  28 Main St., Bristol.
•  29 Green Street, Vergennes.
•  140 Commerce St., Hinesburg.
