Local firefighters earn honors
BENNINGTON — County firefighters won three of the 10 major statewide awards handed out at the Vermont State Firefighters Association’s annual convention, which was hosted by the Bennington Fire Department on Aug. 17, 18 and 19.
Two were members of the Bristol Fire Department.
Justin Jackman was named the Emergency Maintenance Technician of the Year.
Cadet Will Elwell earned the distinction of Junior Firefighter of the Year.
The third local winner came from the Middlebury Fire Department: Paul Garrow was honored as Vermont’s Line Officer of the Year.
All three were nominated by their own departments and then selected from all the statewide nominees by a Vermont association panel.
The Vergennes Fire Department also earned some hardware, receiving a first-place trophy for marching for a unit of 10 firefighters or fewer in the convention’s parade.
