VERGENNES — Vergennes police responded to a report of suspicious activity on West Main Street on July 14. When arriving on the scene, police officers observed a woman crossing the road on 22A by the cemetery. The woman appeared to be intoxicated.
When officers spoke with the woman, she was delusional. She was taken into custody and later admitted into Chittenden Correctional Facility in South Burlington to be evaluated.
It was there that reports revealed that the woman had previous medical issues and was transported to Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington.
In other incidents between July 9 and 16, Vergennes Police:
•  On July 9 responded to a report of a theft on Main Street. A woman said a young man had  stolen a pair of pants and a black leather wallet from Linda’s Apparel and Gifts and Addison Outfitters. Police spoke with the young man, and he denied involvement. The investigation is pending.
•  On July 9 said an off-duty officer investigated suspicious activity under the dam. The officer found a juvenile shooting fish. He was identified and reported to the fish and game warden.
•  On July 9 responded to reports of noise complaint in a local park after 10 p.m. Police found that a juvenile was skateboarding after park hours and was referred to parents.
•  On July 9 conducted a public speaking engagement at the Pittsford Fire Service building.
•  On July 9 responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident on Main Street. There was moderate damage, and one person was hospitalized due to a neck injury.
•  Responded to a vehicle lockout on July 10 outside of Shaw’s. The individual was able to gain entry into the car.
•  On July 10, responded to a lockout on Panton Road.
•  On July 10, dealt with a disruptive female at Little City Family Practice. Officers investigated the situation. The woman later drove herself to Porter Hospital.
•  Investigated a 224 Main St. apartment on July 10. A property manager claimed to be threatened by two men who are his neighbors. The investigation is pending.
•  Aided a Middlebury resident on July 10 with a local vendor. The individual said they had dropped their personal belongings off and was unable to contact the vendor to retrieve them.
•  On July 10, the police chief spoke at a town meeting in Panton about criminal activity and motor vehicle incidents in the area.
•  Responded to a report of suspicious activity on July 10 off Route 7 near Ferrisburgh. An off-duty officer saw an individual loading wire into the back of his car. The man said he had permission to take the wire. The officer contacted the game warden. Permission was verified.
•  Investigated a report of a vehicle following too closely on July 10 on 22A. Police were unable to contact the owner of the vehicle.
•  Responded to a vehicle lockout at Shaw’s on July 10. Entry was gained into the vehicle.
•  On July 11, responded to an emotionally distraught employee claiming the intent to harm self and others. CSAC was contacted and the individual was transported to Porter Hospital.
•  On July 11 went to 224 Main St. to investigate excess foot traffic. Police interviewed individuals who were hanging around the area, but no activity was found to be suspicious.
•  On July 12 secured an open office found unlocked on Main Street. The owner was contacted.
•  Assisted New York State Police on July 12 in contacting a local resident. The man was a former owner of a pistol that he sold illegally to another individual in upstate New York.
•  Returned a lost credit card found at Small City Market on July 12.
•  Assisted Vermont State Police with a theft from the Panton General Store on July 12. A male allegedly stole a water bottle from the store. After speaking with the storeowner, he refused to pay. The store manager spoke with police, but let the man leave without paying.
•  On July 12 responded to a report of vandalism near Panton Town and Country Store. Police found that individuals had forced entry into a camper parked on the side of the road. Beer bottles were found near the scene. Police are still investigating the situation.
•  On July 13 dealt with a suspicious activity report on Icehouse Court. A resident’s home was entered through a sliding glass door that was found off its track. Nothing was taken, and police are still trying to determine who entered the home.
•  Received a loitering report on July 13. A male on Main Street was making customers nervous by pacing outside the front of stores. Police interviewed the man who said he was looking for a ride to Burlington because he had missed the bus.
•  On July 13 arrested a man for a DUI on Panton Road. Robert C. Hall was pulled over for allegedly speeding. Hall failed a roadside sobriety test and was taken into custody. Later, his BAC level was found to be .135.
•  On July 13 dealt with a noise complaint on South Water Street. Police contacted the resident, who was in the home with her juvenile son. After a check of the apartment, nothing was found to be suspicious.
•  On July 13 found a portable toilet on its side in Falls Park.
•  On July 14 dealt with a parking situation on North Street. A vehicle was blocking a resident’s driveway. The owner was contacted and the car was moved.
•  On July 15 responded to reports of a man shooting a gun at an animal on Walker Avenue. Three witnesses reported their findings to police. The man admitted to shooting a BB gun at a squirrel in his yard. The man is no longer allowed to shoot guns within Vergennes city limits.
