ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police responded to a Monkton Road home in Monkton at just past midnight on Wednesday for a report of a family fight.
Troopers said that their investigation on the scene revealed that Layna Coursey, 20, assaulted a subject with whom she is in a domestic relationship. While being placed into custody, Coursey allegedly assaulted a trooper.
Police cited her for domestic assault and assault on a law enforcement officer and lodged her at the Chittenden County Correctional Center with bail set at $2,500.
In a separate incident, VSP responded on Feb. 23 to a one-vehicle crash on Browns Road in Lincoln. Trooper Keri Starr reported that Timothy J. Thompson, 44, of Lincoln was driving a Mack plow truck belonging to the town of Lincoln southbound on Browns Road when he attempted to negotiate a steep uphill grade while spreading sand.
While doing so, the plow truck lost traction and began to slide backwards down the hill, Starr reported, leaving skid marks from the middle of the road to the west shoulder. The truck left the roadway and knocked over a moderate-size tree before rolling onto its driver side where it came to a position of uncontrolled rest. No one was injured.
The trooper said very icy road conditions contributed to the accident. The Lincoln Fire Department assisted at the scene with traffic control.
•  On Feb. 17 at 9:35 p.m. checked a vehicle parked in a pull-off on Plank Road in New Haven. The trooper cited Andrew Sumner, 23, and Stephanie Torrey, 21, for possession of marijuana and cited Josh Mayo, 20, for drinking under age.
•  On Feb. 23 began investigating the theft of approximately $950 of scrap copper from a work site at the Lincoln Elementary School. The school has been undergoing a renovation project and that scrap copper was being stored unsecured on the school property. The theft apparently occurred on the morning of Feb. 18 but was not reported to authorities until Feb. 23.
The school was going to use the proceeds from the scrap copper from renovations being done to fund new computer chairs for the computer lab or other needed school items for the school children. Anyone with information is asked to contact VSP New Haven at 1-802-388-4919.
•  On Feb. 23 at 9:22 p.m. responded to Sherman Lane in New Haven for a report of a gathering of vehicles and people. It was also reported that the trucks were racing around. Upon arrival, state police found two vehicles and two people. They cited David Yandow, 19, of Bristol and Abraham Goyette, 19, of New Haven for possession of marijuana.
•  On Feb. 23 at around 10 p.m. went to a Quaker Village Road home in New Haven for a complaint that a large vehicle had struck and damaged a concrete retaining wall, several fence posts, and a metal gate enabling cows to get loose. VSP Sgt. Stephen McNamara reported seeing a damaged concrete retaining wall, three heavily damaged steel gates and at least four wooden posts snapped at their bases. He also found an exterior mirror from possibly a large Ford truck at the scene. The vehicle and its driver fled the scene prior to the trooper’s arrival.

•  On Feb. 24 at 5:31 p.m. were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision on Buckwheat Street in Ferrisburgh. Police reported that Lissa Gebo, 50, of Ferrisburgh lost control of the 2005 Chevy Equinox she was driving on the snow-covered road and traveled over an embankment causing the vehicle to turn over onto its roof. Gebo and her passenger were each treated by the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad for their minor injuries. The vehicle was totaled.
•  On Feb. 25 at 7:12 p.m. responded to a single-vehicle accident on Quaker Street in Starksboro. Police said Scott Manning, 53, of Lincoln was driving a Chevy truck too fast for the conditions on the snowy road, lost control of his vehicle, and traveled over an embankment. Manning was transported to Porter Hospital to receive medical treatment for injuries that the trooper called “mild.”
•  On Feb. 26 at approximately 3:34 a.m. responded to a single-vehicle accident on Vail Road in Sudbury. The trooper determined that the driver, Amber M. Ketcham, 22, of Orwell, drove a Trane Inc. van without permission and subsequently crashed the van in a field off Vail Road. Ketcham was cited for driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
•  On Feb. 27 at 4:36 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle driven on the Leicester-Whiting Road in Leicester by Ryan Phelps,  31, of Shoreham. The trooper said he drove by and had recent knowledge that Phelps had a suspended license. After confirming the suspended license with the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles database, the trooper cited Phelps for driving with a criminally suspended license as well as for driving under the influence of alcohol and violation of conditions of release.
•  On Feb. 28 at 6:31 a.m. responded to a crash on Big Hollow Road in Starksboro. Police said that while driving a Toyota Rav-4 westbound on the snowy road, Robert W. Lawton, 55, of Starksboro lost control, traveled off the south side of the road, and collided with a tree. Lawton was unhurt, but the Toyota sustained moderate front-end contact damage. The trooper said neither speed or alcohol were contributing factors, and he mailed Lawton a written warning for failing to maintain control of his vehicle.
•  On Feb. 28 at shortly before 11 a.m. stopped a vehicle driven in Bristol village by Michael Roberts, 52, of Ferrisburgh. The trooper cited Roberts for driving under the influence, third offense, and driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On March 1 at a little after 8 a.m. responded to a crash of a milk truck. Trooper Leise reported that a 1999 Freightliner milk truck was traveling east on Route 17 in Addison when the driver, Kyle J. Adams, 27, of St. Albans, reportedly lost control of the truck and it traveled off the south side of the road, and it collided with a curve warning sign and a utility pole. There were no injuries, the truck sustained minor contact damage. Road and weather conditions included snow. State DMV Commercial Motor Vehicle inspectors responded to the scene. Leise said neither speed nor impairment were contributing factors in this collision.
