Legion tops Burlington for fourth straight

BURLINGTON — On Wednesday the Addison County American Legion baseball team coasted past host Burlington, 12-3, in a game rescheduled after an earlier rain-out. The win, AC’s fourth straight, moved the local nine to 4-2 in the Northern Division and 4-4 overall.
AC was set to play four more games after the early holiday deadline for this edition of the Independent: at South Burlington on Thursday; two at home vs. South Burlington on Saturday, only the first of which would count in the league standings; and a non-league game at Bellows Falls on Sunday.
In Wednesday’s game, Logan Williams earned the win by tossing six innings and allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk, striking out three. Collin Curler — who also doubled and singled — struck out the side in the seventh to nail down the victory.
AC struck for three runs in the first, an inning keyed by William’s two-run double. Williams later singled.
After Burlington cut the lead to 3-1 in the second, AC added four runs in the third, an inning in which Wade Steele drilled a two-run double, and added two more runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings and one more in the seventh.
Devin Hayes singled twice for AC, and he, Curler, Nick Richer and Dylan Bresnick each scored twice.
