Young shepherds become heritage breed ambassadors

The past several months have been busy for 11-year-old Olivia Gordon and 13-year-old Natalie Layn. The Bristol residents, who are cousins, were among 13 young people from around the country selected to take part in this year’s Youth Conservationist Program, through which participants receive yearling female sheep to start their own flocks.

As the clock hit two o’clock on the first day of the Addison County Fair & Field Days this past Tuesday, kids and adults alike rush to the sheep tent in the northeast corner at the Addison County Fairgrounds.

The Twist O’ Wool Guild was back at the Addison County Fair and Field Days to display members’ colorful work, equipment and a handmade afghan to raffle.
