Middlebury Police Log: Man booked for hate crime, disorderly conduct

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Timothy E. Edwards Jr., 38, of Ripton, for disorderly conduct, a hate crime, violating his conditions of release, and resisting arrest, following an incident near the pavilion off Mary Hogan Drive at around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 17. Police said the hate crime citation stemmed from allegations that Edwards had used racial slurs while shouting at people in the area. David A. Fleming is in the hospital with serious injuries after he crashed his car in Middlebury Sunday evening and was thrown from the vehicle off Route 116 when headed toward Bristol.

Middlebury police used video recordings and basic investigative work to arrest a local man who they say took an axe to a bank ATM in a failed attempt to rob it.
