Familiar face assumes maritime museum helm

Chris Sabick was still studying anthropology at Texas A&M College Station in 1998 when one of his professors — Kevin Crisman — encouraged him to take an internship with the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, or LCMM.

On June 17-18, citizens of the New England Abenaki community will gather at Lake Champlain Maritime Museum to celebrate their history and heritage, and the public is invited.

Lake Champlain Maritime Museum will open for the 2023 season on Saturday, May 20. The museum will be open daily with free admission from May 20-Oct. 15.

In an effort to make youth programming more accessible to families in the 5-town area, the Bristol Recreation Department will be implementing a new, “pay what you can” payment system for half of its youth camps this summer.

Nearly 70 youth rowers from Chittenden and Addison County middle and high schools competed in the Icebreaker Northeast Regional Youth Open-Water Rowing Championship in Fort Point Channel in Boston, Mass., on Saturday, Nov. 19.

High school rowers from Chittenden and Addison counties gathered in Burlington Harbor last Saturday for the annual James Wakefield Rescue Row, sponsored by the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum.

A team of rowers from Ferrisburgh’s Lake Champlain Maritime Museum (LCMM) traveled south for a near-marathon of open water rowing — The Blackburn Challenge — on Saturday, July 23.
