Middlebury orders homeless encampment cleared

Police and local human services officials told five campers they have to leave the spot behind Ilsley Library because of safety, emergency access and winter maintenance issues.

Shelter officials have growing concerns for the safety of the facility’s other houseless guests and staff, but it could temporarily add to the number of people who’ve been camping downtown.
