Panther softball sweeps Bowdoin on new field

With Sunday’s 5-2, 7-0 doubleheader sweep of NESCAC rival Bowdoin, the Panthers are now 5-1 (4-0 in league play) on their newly installed field-turf surface off South Street.

The Middlebury College baseball team swept three games from visiting Bowdoin this past weekend, and then defeated Norwich in a non-league game on Tuesday to improve to 14-7. The Panthers scored in double digits in all four outings.

Just before totality began on Monday, the DJ at the Middlebury recreation fields wrapped up “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” and a brief silence fell. Then the sun completely disappeared, and the crowd went wild.

The Middlebury College women’s lacrosse team found itself in uncharted territory on its home turf this past Saturday against Wesleyan.

About five dozen Vergennes residents and officials who came in person or by Zoom to the Vergennes Opera House to attend Monday’s citywide Housing Conversation agreed on a basic premise: Their community needs more housing.
