Legal Notices
The Addison Independent publishes all public meeting and legal notices free for all to access on this page of our website. An archive of all notices can be found by clicking the municipality, organization, or agency of interest in the index at the bottom of this page.
Notices are $9 per column per inch to run in the printed edition of the Addison Independent (published every Thursday) and online. Municipalities that do not have print publishing requirements may opt for online-only placement for $20/week.
To place a legal or public notice, please call 802-388-4944 or click the button below. The booking deadline for publication in the Thursday edition is Monday at 5 pm.
The Addison Independent does not publish submitted complaints or notices containing unverified or unadjudicated personal allegations against individuals.
Our concerns are:
- Libel: Printing serious, unproven accusations against an individual exposes both the author and the newspaper to significant legal liability for libel (defamation in print).
- Verification and Adjudication: Editorial policy requires that personal grievances or accusations of wrongdoing be verified through official channels—such as court records, police reports, or formal town proceedings—before they can be considered for print.
- Community Standards: The paper must maintain a public forum that relies on documented facts rather than unproven personal disputes to ensure all community members are treated fairly.
