Marlins prevail in swim opener

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Marlins opened their Champlain Valley Swim League season on July 1 by defeating a rebuilding Burlington Country Club Team, 253-135. Older swimmers Holly Staats and Oliver Poduschnick picked up three wins apiece to pace Middlebury.
Cassandra Bellman, Sadie Chance, Ava Schneider and Emma Morrissey on the girls’ side and Felix Poduschnick, Constantin Bellman, Daniel Power and Gabriel Schmitt on the boys’ side won two races apiece. The Marlins also prevailed in 10 of 15 relays.
The Marlins were were less fortunate at Chittenden County’s The Edge on Tuesday, July 6, as Edge swamped the Marlins, 302-110. Chance and Poduschnick won two races each to pace Middlebury.
The Marlins’ July 8 meet at Essex was moved to July 27 in Middlebury due to safety questions in the Essex pool. Next up for the Marlins is a meet at Burlington Tennis Club on this coming Tuesday.
