Panther golf team captain wins state links crown

Rutland golfer Chloe Levins, a rising senior at Middlebury College, sinks a putt on No. 2 on her way to wining the state title.

MIDDLEBURY — Rutland resident and Middlebury College women’s golf team captain Chloe Levins last week won the Vermont State Women’s Golf Association’s Amateur Championship at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course in Middlebury.
Levins, whose home course is the Rutland Country Club, led from start to finish by shooting 74-74-77 from Tuesday to Thursday for a total of 225, good for an eight-stroke win over defending champion Tiffany Maurycy of Killington. It was Levins’ first title. She was runner-up in 2014 when the event was held at the Orleans Country Club.
Levins led by seven strokes entering the final day of play, but saw the lead shrink to two after a rainy front nine on Thursday. But she steadied with a strong back nine to pull away from Maurycy.
Several Ralph Myhre members competed. Mia Politano (91-94-82-267) was 14th overall and second among junior golfers who teed off last week. The rising junior at Otter Valley Union High School won the Vermont Division II golf  title in the championship competition at Ralph Myhre.
