Poultney football defeats OVUHS, 40-20

BRANDON — Visiting Poultney dealt the Otter Valley Union High School football team a 40-20 setback on Saturday in the Division III season opener for both programs.
Blue Devil running back Levi Allen powered Poultney with five touchdowns, four on the ground from 1, 3, 47 and 51 yards out, and one through the air on a 40-yard toss from quarterback Caden Chapman. That catch snapped a 6-6 tie late in the first half.
Allen ran for 234 yards in 14 carries, and Poultney also recovered a fumble in the OV end zone to make it 21-6 in the third quarter.
OV QB Alex Polli tossed two TD passes to Brady Diaz, a 17-yarder in the first half and a 45-yarder in the fourth quarter.  Nathaniel Blake also returned a fourth-quarter kickoff 85 yards for an OV TD.
Polli completed 21-of-33 passes for almost 300 yards, but Poultney, a D-III finalist a year ago, picked him off three times. Blake led OV with 47 yards rushing.
The young Otters will host defending D-III champion Woodstock this Saturday at 1 p.m.
