VERGENNES — At their March 10 meeting Vergennes City Council members approved an updated city plan and took steps toward a plan that could lead to decorative streetlights on Main Street.
In other business on March 10, the city council:
• Re-elected Lynn Jackson Donnelly as deputy mayor and welcomed newly elected Councilor Tara Brooks to the board.
• Backed a proposal by the LC Jazz Band to place a memorial bench on the city green to honor late band founder Dr. Don Bicknell. Band members propose a wood or marble bench with a design subject to council approval.
• Heard from City Manager Daniel Hofman that he is seeking grants from a number of sources to help fund a major overhaul of the city’s sewer and stormwater collection system.
• Heard from Hofman that a new and improved city website should be up and running sometime this week.
• Re-appointed Cheryl Brinkman as the city’s representative on the Addison County Solid Waste Management District board.
• Reached a consensus to recommend to Mayor Jeff Fritz, who missed the meeting, that former council member Randy Ouellette be appointed to the city’s Basin Task Force Committee.
