2020 Vt. Sports Hall of Fame dinner postponed

SOUTH BURLINGTON — The Vermont Sports Hall of Fame has postponed its annual induction dinner to the fall due to the current COVID-19 crisis.
Among the inductees will be former Mount Abraham Union High School and University of New Hampshire standout Carol Weston.
The hall’s eighth class of Vermont sports legends will now be honored on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Delta Marriott Burlington Hotel in South Burlington. The event had previously been scheduled for April 25.
According to hall officials all tickets purchased can be used at the rescheduled event. Those ticket holders who are unable to attend the new date may email [email protected] for a refund.
A portion of the proceeds from the dinner will benefit Prevent Child Abuse Vermont, the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame’s designated charity. Previous events have raised close to $20,000 for the charity, according to a hall news release.
In February, Weston, now a well-respected soccer and hockey referee in the region, was announced as one of the 10 hall inductees.
Weston becomes to first female hockey player to inducted into the hall. She went from Bristol to star for a top NCAA Division I program. A four-year regular on defense for UNH (1987-91), she helped lead UNH to ECAC titles as a junior and a senior. Weston also played soccer at UNH and was a championship thrower on the Wildcat track team.
At Mount Abraham, Weston starred on the boys’ soccer team; won state championships in the discus, shot put and javelin; and twice won the New England discus title.
Weston was an assistant women’s hockey coach at Middlebury College and then Cornell for seven years, and then served as the Big Red head coach for four seasons (1998-2002), becoming the first Vermonter to become a Division I head hockey coach.
