MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College alpine skiing head coach Stever Bartlett has been named the National Alpine Coach of the Year by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association.
Bartlett, who just finished his 14th season leading Middlebury’s alpine team, oversaw a 2020 season that was one of the best of his tenure. 
Middlebury stood in third place after two days of racing in March’s NCAA Skiing Championships in Bozeman, Mont., before the event was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. 
Before then the Panthers won two carnivals during the 2020 season and finished just one point short third title of the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) championship. Bartlett’s teams won eight races this winter, while Panther athletes were victorious 13 times with 19 top-three finishes.
The honor is not the first for Bartlett. In 2008, Bartlett was named the EISA Coach of the Year after leading the Panthers to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA championships. In 2012, he led the men’s slalom team to a national title at the NCAAs. The team repeated the feat the following season, when Middlebury hosted the NCAA championships. 
In 2015, Bartlett coached alpine national champion Rob Cone while leading the Panthers to the men’s team alpine national title.
