Boys & Girls Club reopening in September

VERGENNES — The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes has announced that the club will reopen on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and will be open Monday-Friday from 2:30 to 6 p.m. daily. An open house with music, games and social distancing and safety protocols in place will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic new safety procedures and policies will be in place. This information will be provided to the public in three different ways: A newsletter and forms will be sent by mail to all current existing members; the bgcvergennes.org website will be updated to include all new information and forms by Aug. 8 for existing members and new members; and information will be provided to the local newspapers, and staff will be available at [email protected] to answer questions or by phone at 802-870-7199.
Some changes include the following:
•  All staff and members will be masked.
•  All members (existing) must complete the 2020-21 membership form and sign the COVID safety policy form before entering the building in September.
•  Each person entering the building will have their temperature taken and increased cleaning procedures and group protocols will be in place.
•  Parents will sign up online for their youth or teen to come to the club as there is a daily limit of 20. Each family may sign up for two days for each member and then the Thursday before you can check and sign up for one more slot.
•  Increased volunteer presence will include more programming options for members to choose from. One virtual/online offering will also be available each month.
What will be the same?
•  A place where all members can come after school and pick up a snack and meal even if they are not staying for the afternoon hours.
•  A safe and nurturing place staffed by people dedicated to helping youth have a great place to grow and be themselves.
•  Both indoor and outdoor activities. Some September offerings include Walking Club, Chess Club, American Sign Language Lessons, Arts & Crafts and Learning to Fish.
So, members look for a letter coming soon. New members interested in joining, check out the website bgcvergennes.org on Aug. 5 or after, and for the community, please look in upcoming local newspapers.
