KATHERINE MARIE WINDHAM

KETCHUM, Idaho — Katherine Marie Windham passed away peacefully Sept. 6, 2026, at the age of 89.

With her tall stature and distinctive white curls, Katherine was an extraordinarily beautiful woman. She touched the lives of everyone she met.

Katherine was born in Lake Charles, La., Aug. 3, 1937, to Frances Holland Windham and Edward David Windham. In 1956, she married John Stilwell Wood, and together they had five daughters. The family made their home in Short Hills, N.J., before moving to Denver, Colo., in 1970.

In 1974, Katherine and her “girls” moved to Weybridge, Vt. This began a new and infinitely rewarding chapter in the big white house known simply as “The Farm.” Life on the farm was a family endeavor with everyone learning together to care for dairy goats, pigs, chickens and rabbits (among other barnyard critters). Their enormous vegetable garden provided food for the table and filled the cupboards throughout the winter months. Katherine cooked endless meals for her family and for anyone lucky enough to find their way through the side door. One of Katherine’s joys in life was feeding people — a passion she passed down to her daughters and grandchildren.

In 1987, she sold the farm and moved to East Middlebury and later to Idaho to be closer to her daughters.

Vermont was the perfect place to settle with her family, and she felt she had finally “come home.” During her years there, Katherine worked as an apple picker, a sales clerk at Skihaus, a weaver for Mary Lynn O’Shea, and sold advertising for local radio stations and the Addison Independent. In 1995, she found her calling as a foot reflexologist, affectionately earning the title “The Foot Fairy.” Her life was continuously full of new beginnings.

Katherine adored life, with all of its triumphs and challenges. She exuded warmth, comfort, and positive energy. With her lilting voice, still carrying a hint of the Louisiana bayous, and her luminous presence, she brought light wherever she landed. Katherine forged special connections with humans and animals alike throughout her life, including wild animals such as “Foxy” in Ketchum and her beloved dogs, Ratsy, Honey and Cher.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and their families: Anna and her late husband, Monty Apple, and their son, Avery; Kate and Andy Berman and their children, Sara and Riley; Cynthia and Dan Komlo and their children, Aaron and Chelsea; Caroline and Dave Woodham and their daughter, Charlotte; and Charlotte and Doug Woodcock and their children, Johnny and Caroline. Katherine was predeceased by her brother, David, his wife, Pat, and their daughter, Barbara.

A private burial ceremony and a festive celebration of life will be held in Middlebury, Vt.
