I have known Hannah Sessions since she was very young. My wife and I became close friends with Hannah’s parents and Hannah became, and still is, a very close friend of our oldest daughter. In her youth, Hannah spent a lot of time on our farm. We ran a cow dairy farm in Cornwall with 195 cows plus young stock.
Whether the “bug” of farming bit Hannah at our farm, I do not know, but when she and her husband Greg decided that farming was a career they wished to pursue, they did it in a purposeful and thoughtful way. Over the last 25 years, they have established a successful and sustainable goat dairy operation in Leicester. They have met the challenge of farming, how to succeed, how to make it sustainable by going at it with a different type of livestock than the more common dairy cow. They work just as hard, get up just as early, make hay under the same conditions as every other farmer in Addison County, deal with the same environmental concerns and regulations. On top of this, they developed and marketed a whole menu of different goat and cow milk, which they purchase, cheeses. They have done the work and done it successfully.
All farmers in Addison County should be inspired that Hannah wishes to represent the residents of our region in the senate chamber of the Vermont Legislature. She will bring that farming, land use diligence and hard work to the Golden Dome. She is a thoughtful and concerned person with a strong agricultural ethic that she will, most importantly, bring to the Legislature. I am proud and inspired to support her for the Vermont Senate.
