Removing others’ yard signs is sad

My husband David and I went out early in the morning last Tuesday — the day it was “legal” to put campaign signs up on public land — and carefully placed 25 Amanda Janoo signs along Rt. 116, from just north of Starksboro to East Middlebury. We were very careful not to place signs anywhere near anyone’s driveway — no one wants a sign they might disagree with put up where it might be connected to them! —  but instead on stretches of road where there are no driveways.

Within one week, most of the signs have disappeared.

This makes me angry, yes — it was a fair amount of work to place the signs, and we are proud to support the Janoo campaign. But mostly it makes me sad. Why would anyone — presumably who do not support Janoo for governor — simply disrespect some hard work and some political opinions?

This whole episode has made me think about signs — what are they for? Certainly, to show support for the candidates of one’s choice, and to show that there are differences in opinions, and — very importantly — to remind people to decide, and vote!

Removal of signs is a sad story.
