SUDBURY — Josie Ritter died peacefully at home Oct. 27, 2026. Josie was born in 1949 in Miami, Fla., and escaped to Vermont in 1974, where she met Ted Russell whom she dated for the next 52 years. Josie had two great passions in life — horses and music. Her idea of fun was to have Ted drive her and her horse 20 miles and spend the day riding home. A perfect day would end with her playing a gig with one of her bands.
She had a wealth of friends and family who loved her. A typical example of a condolence offered: “I will always remember how much I admired her individuality and authenticity. And how cool she was!!” Josie is survived by her life partner, Ted, and a three-generation multitude of Florida nieces and nephews.
We will celebrate her life all day Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at her home at 3427 Route 30 in Sudbury. Bring your musical instruments and your stories. RSVP to [email protected] greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Green Mountain Draft Horse Association, 271 Plank Rd. Vergennes, Vt. 05491 or Sudbury Meeting House Fund, checks payable to Sudbury Community Club, 715 Fiddle Hill Rd. Sudbury, Vt. 05733 ◊◊
