Eagle football racks up big points against Missisquoi

BRISTOL — With two games left in the regular season, the Eagle football team this past Friday plowed to its most decisive victory so far — a 54-0 win over Missisquoi.

The squad, made of players from Mount Abraham and Vergennes union high schools, has won all of its games this season by 18 points or more and has scored no fewer than 28 in any contest so far. The only team to score more than 10 points on MAV is Windsor, who the Eagles beat 34-16 during their second game of the season.

The Oct. 9 game against Missisquoi — the Eagles’ final of the regular season at home — marked their sixth victory and the Thunderbirds’ sixth loss.

During the game, senior Cole Gagnon — who has led the Eagle offense in rushing yards and touchdowns this season — carried the ball 166 yards over five rushes and scored three touchdowns.

Senior Clark Crary, senior Izaak Wolniewicz, senior Eli Schondube, freshman Mason Mayo and sophomore Landon Griner each contributed one TD as well. Sophomore Greyson Vanderway made 6-8 extra point attempts.

The Division-III Eagles will conclude their regular season play with two away games — one at Spaulding on Friday night and the other at Otter Valley, the only other undefeated team in the division, on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
