David W. Dotson, 85, of Poultney

POULTNEY — David W. Dotson passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, at the University of Vermont Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Born Nov. 12, 1940, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Floyd and Sarah (Davidson) Dotson, he attended the Taft School in Connecticut and furthered his education at Columbia University and the University of Oklahoma (Ph.D.).

David started teaching at Fayetteville State University (N.C.) and subsequently moved to Green Mountain College, serving as a professor for 32 years. He truly loved teaching history, government and economics, as well as serving as Dean of Faculty and Academic Affairs.

David married Linda Terpening June 9, 1962. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Poultney; his sons, Stephen P. Dotson (Lorraine) of Rutland Town, and Eric D. Dotson (Catalina) of Pittsford, N.Y.; his daughter, Krista D. O’Brien (Robert) of North Haven, Conn.; and his grandchildren, Teresa, Tristan, Sara and Grace. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, James Dotson.

David enjoyed his family, travel, photography, philanthropic endeavors, investing and numismatics. He will always be remembered as a diehard Giants fan, avid baker, a loving father and grandfather.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, Oct. 9, from 4-6 p.m., at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, located at 266 Allen Avenue, Poultney.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. at Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home. The Rev. William Whiteman will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Vermont Nursing School or the Foley Cancer Center, Rutland.
