REVA ANN COUSINO

BRISTOL — Reva Ann Cousino died at her home in Bristol Aug. 25, 2026. She was born June 28, 1948, at Porter Hospital to Hector Arthur Cousino and Doris Young Cousino. She had one sibling, her brother, Arthur Hector Cousino, who predeceased her.

As a child, Reva attended the Jerusalem School in South Starksboro. Her mother then took a job teaching in South Burlington and Doris and two friends and fellow teachers and Reva commuted to South Burlington. Reva attended South Burlington High School and was in the first class to graduate in 1965.

When Doris’ friends retired, making the commute no longer practical, Doris, Hector and Arthur moved to South Burlington. Reva chose to not go with them and attended Castleton, earning a B.S. in Education in 1969.

When Reva’s father died in 2003, Reva became the sole caregiver for her mother and brother, often making daily trips to South Burlington. Reva’s brother died in 2015, and Reva continued to be the primary caregiver for her mother, continuing to make the daily trips to South Burlington. Her mother, Doris, died in 2019.

Reva worked at the former Brandon Training School, practice taught at South Burlington and began teaching at Mount Abraham Union High School in 1969, where she taught for more than 35 years, making many treasured relationships with students and fellow teachers and received a “Teacher of the Year” award. While teaching at Mount Abe, Reva lived on a portion of the family farm in South Starksboro, on which she remained until moving to the Residence at Otter Creek in 2020. She moved again to live with Becky Gracie and family in Bristol. There, she was the “life of the party,” visiting with the other residents, kids and pets.

Reva is survived by many special friends and coworkers including her bestie, Carol Drolette; Cindy O’Brien, Melanie Stultz-Backus, Lois Thompson, and Wally Richardson; her adopted nieces, Karen Mermagen and Donna Drollette; and her special friend, advocate and care giver, Suzy Roorda. She was also predeceased by her special and longtime friend, John Penzer, who died a month before she did, leaving a hole in her heart.

Reva asked that there be no funeral or formal special service for her but that you remember her in your own way.
