PATRICIA ANN NEWMAN

MIDDLEBURY — Patricia Ann Newman of Middlebury, Vt., died peacefully Aug. 3, 2026, with her daughters, Kim and Kelley by her side. Pat was known for her generous spirit, positive nature, love of laughter and ability to embrace new friendships wherever she went.

Pat was born March 16, 1940, in Boston, Mass., to William and Rose Doyle, the fourth of five children. Growing up in Hingham, Mass., by the seashore, Pat spent summers swimming and boating. During the winter months she followed her adored brothers to the ice ponds and became an avid figure skater. All this led to a lifelong love of the great outdoors. If you were looking for Pat, look outside. She spent the last years of her life at the residence at Otter Creek in Middlebury, Vt., where she enjoyed the sunshine of her patio and the company of loving, kind-hearted caregivers and residents, who became her dear friends.

Pat met the love of her life, John Harold Newman, of Northampton Mass., in the summer of 1958 when he was starting his career as a Marine while stationed in South Weymouth, Mass. It was true love at first sight. Excited to start their life together they were married in April of 1959. As a Marine Corps family, they lived throughout the United States and abroad, raising their four children with a spirit of adventure and resilience. In addition to raising and caring for her family, Pat built a career as a civil service worker in accounting before going on to become a highly successful and respected realtor, known and trusted throughout her community.

When Pat and John retired, they continued to travel the world together celebrating the joys of retracing their ancestral roots to Ireland, and the comforts of luxury cruises from the Baltics to the Hawaiian Islands. Pat and John remained the best of friends and partners in love for 61 years until John’s passing in 2019.

Pat is survived by her four children, Kim Cross of New Haven, Vt., Kevin Newman of Easthampton, Mass., Kelley Newman of Lakeville, Mass., and Kristine Brennan of Gilbert, Ariz. She also leaves behind four grandsons, one granddaughter-in-law, one great-granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, and friends, who enjoyed her fun loving company.

We will all miss Pat’s perpetual appreciation for the beauty she saw every day in the ones around her and the ones she loved from afar.
