BRISTOL — With sadness, we note the unexpected passing of Douglas Donald Powell, formerly of Bristol, on Aug. 7, 2026, in Syracuse, N.Y.

He was born Feb. 19, 1957, the son of Lucille (Powell) Jimmo and Frederick Powell. Doug spent his earliest days in Bristol schools, graduating from MAUHS in 1975. He attended Springfield College (Mass.) and Rockford College (Ill.).

Doug excelled in basketball, baseball and soccer as a varsity high-school athlete. He played first base on the 1974 Division II MAUHS baseball team, contributing to its first championship. In 1975, as a senior, he was selected as one of 15 statewide players in the first-ever VT-NH Twin State Soccer game.

In his work life, Doug gravitated to his dad’s chosen professions — plumber and electrician. He pursued his trade in many parts of the country, relying on his considerable skills as a problem-solver and quick learner.

Doug’s love of music threaded its way through his life as a singer-songwriter; he acquired a knack for cooking in his later years — again, like his dad.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne of Potsdam, N.Y.; his brothers, Scott and Charlie Powell, and Brad Jimmo; and sisters, Lisa Powell, Dawn (Powell) Jimmo and Anne (Powell) Gleason; and nieces, nephews and great-nephews. Keeping connected to these — “his people” — was especially important to Doug.

Doug’s presence in this world is missed — but well-remembered. ◊
