New Haven selectboard appoints Barnum to open seat

NEW HAVEN — The New Haven selectboard last week appointed Shauntell Barnum to fill a vacant seat on the town’s top governing panel.

The seat was previously held by Chris Bataille, who resigned from the post last month because he had accepted a job out of state. The selectboard at its April 7 meeting voted unanimously to appoint Barnum to the open seat until Town Meeting Day next March.

Barnum currently serves as a mortgage loan officer at Vermont Federal Credit Union, where she’s worked in various positions over the past decade, according to her LinkedIn profile.

“This is a new experience for me, but one I feel deeply connected to,” she wrote in an April 9 LinkedIn post announcing her appointment. “New Haven is where I’ve built my life, where I’m raising my family, and a place that means so much to me.

“Through my work and community involvement, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and opportunities our communities face, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of thoughtful, community-focused decision-making,” she continued. “More than anything, I look forward to listening, learning, and serving in a way that reflects the people who call New Haven home.”
