ON A HIKE beyond the first waterfall in Skógafoss our columnist found a canyon lined with waterfalls and cascades, with snow-covered peaks dotting the horizon.

The Gljúfrbúi falls were spectacular, thundering down the full height of the bluff in a glittering mist lit by the low pale sun of a northern winter.
