Golf teams swing into action

The Mount Abraham, Middlebury and Vergennes golf teams swung into action between Sept. 3 and 9, with the Eagles faring best overall, including winning a three-way competition among the county teams at the Basin Harbor course in Ferrisburgh.
DEBUT DAY
At Ralph Myhre Golf Course on Sept. 3, Essex nipped host MUHS, 173-177, with Colchester in third at 199. Hornet golfer Max Smith was the medalist at 39; other individual scores were not reported.
Meanwhile, VUHS competed in a four-way match at the Cedar Knoll course. Champlain Valley rolled to the win by shooting 146, followed by St. Albans (169): Burlington (195); and VUHS (208). The Commodores’ individual scores were Asa Pratt-Root 43, Ben Hale 47, Quinn LeBeau 53, and Ryan Johnson 65.
CVU’s Camden Ayer (38) was the medalist.
Also on Sept. 3, Mount Abe competed at the Alburg Country Club and was edged for first place by Mount Mansfield, 168-169. Rice (176) and Missisquoi (184) trailed. MMU’s Gavin Letourneau shot a 38 to earn medalist honors. Other individual scores were not reported.
BASIN HARBOR BATTLE
On Sept. 4 the Commodores hosted the Eagles and Tigers at Basin Harbor, and the Eagles came out on top by shooting 175 to edge MUHS (181), with VUHS (198) in third.
Stefan Johnson paced the Eagles as the medalist by firing a 40, followed by Jackson LaMarche 42, Joe Sullivan 46, Spencer Sears 47, and Andy Konczal 51.
Rowdy Malcolm and Reany McKinley each shot a 42 to pace the Tigers, followed by Max Ayer 47, Peter Fuller 50, and Case Pitner 54.
Ben Hale’s 43 led the Commodores, followed by Quinn LeBeau 45, Asa Pratt-Root 50, and Ryan Johnson 60.
EAGLES AT ORLEANS
On Monday at Orleans Country Club the Eagles were third out of four teams. St. Albans took first at 153, with medalist Gavin Benoit firing a 37. Next were St. Johnsbury, 180; Mount Abe, 196; and Colchester, 209. On the course for the Eagles were Jackson LaMarche 41; Andy Konczal 49; Spencer Sears 51; and Joe Sullivan and Stefan Johnson at 52 each.
MUHS HOSTS
On Tuesday the Tigers hosted four teams at Ralph Myhre and finished second behind South Burlington.
The Wolves’ Jack McDougall shot a 37 to earn medalist honors and help his team card 153 for the victory.
The Tigers finished second by totaling 182, with the scorers being Reaney McKinley 42, Rowdy Malcolm 44, and Peter Fuller and Ryan Bouillard 48 each, with Case Pitner 50.
Also competing were Rice (190) and Missisquoi (195).
VUHS AT WEST BOLTON
Also on Tuesday the Commodores were fourth among four teams at the West Bolton Golf Club. Essex won with a score of 163, with Hornet Bryce Terborgh’s 37 the day’s best card.
Next up was Burlington (179), Mount Mansfield (183), and VUHS (201). Taking to the course for VUHS were Asa Pratt-Root and Ben Hale 45 each, Quinn LeBeau 47, and Ryan Johnson 75.
